Student Wellbeing

Research shows that mental health and wellbeing is important for children’s learning and development. Children who are mentally healthy learn better, benefit from life experiences and have stronger relationships with their families, friends and school staff.

At St Albans North Primary School, we have a strong focus on maintaining a positive school culture through promoting the health and wellbeing of all our students and families. We believe that the physical and emotional wellbeing of our students is essential to their success at school and in their future lives. Physically and emotionally healthy students are able to deal positively with life’s challenges, experience a sense of connectedness to school and are better prepared to develop into healthy and resilient young adults.

Our goal is to provide every child with a safe, inclusive and engaging school environment that supports and fosters their emotional wellbeing. We do this by offering a broad range of wellbeing services which support student engagement through developing:

Social awareness: Respecting and understanding others, being empathetic and valuing differences between people.
Self-awareness: Understanding and tuning into feelings and emotions
Self-management: Managing emotions and being able to reflect on our actions and behaviours.
Responsible decision making: Brainstorming and making good choices
Relationship skills: Communication and conflict resolution

The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program recognises that some children need extra support to stay at school and go on to further studies or a job. Learning for Life helps create better futures for children in need by providing additional support and learning opportunities for eligible families.

Eat Up Australia

Since 2016, our school has been fortunate enough to receive support through Eat Up Australia. Eat Up is an Australian not-for-profit, which was created to feed hungry school kids. Eat Up continues to support our school by delivering ready-made, healthy and wholesome lunches direct to the school at no cost, for students in need.
